I think that Mendel started to want to go home becausehe was jelous that his friend was the Rabbi's son.

Becca said...

Connor,
I think that Mendel uses the Bible because he thought it was what Isaac would understand.

Why does the narrator get mad at Mendel for being in love?

JFoley289 said...

Jillian, Mendal said that his father was a thief so he could hear Isaac's secrets.

Jenna, yes, the story's mood did change when his father kissed his forehead because his father had never done that before it made the mood go fromhappy and curious to sincere.

Peyton said...

Why did Mendel's dad hide in the woods?
Why did the author lie about knowing the Cabala?

=)

Peyton said...

Jenna, i think that Mendel wanted to go home after his friend started talking about the Cabala because he might have been jealous.

Olivia said...

Why did Isaac's father kiss him at the end of the story an not before this.

Olivia said...

If Isaac really knew the real Cabala would this change the story and why?

Olivia said...

Jill,
I think that Mendel told Isaac that his father robber because he was jealous of Isaac.

Olivia said...

Peyton,
I think the author lied about knowing the Cabala because he wanted to top Mendel's story.

Sarah said...

On page 84, Isaac imagines he must be asking God's forgiveness for the blasphemies of his son. What do you think blasphemies means? Use details from the text to support your answer.

Sarah said...

Why can't a man learn the Cabala until hr is 30 years old?

Sarah said...

Why does Mendel never tell the truth on their walk? Why does he say it's all true?

Sarah said...

Why does Isaac want to learn the Cabala? Is it because of his lie? Explain your answer with clues from the text.

Sarah said...

Olivia, if Isaac knew the real Cabala, I think it would change the story because he would actally be telling the truth about knowing the it instead of lying about it like his friend, Mendel.

Sarah said...

Jake, I think this is a good title because the story is pretty much about the Cabala and the mysteries of it. For example at the end of the story, Isaac asks his father about if he can learn the Cabala. His reply is,"You can't learn the Cabala until you are 30 years old.It is not for kids your age." Why can't he learn it? That is the mystery part.

Why did Mendel make up the story about being rich and having a robber as a father?

1.Mendel and Isaac do not belive the Messiah has come yet. Based on context clues, what do you conclude their religion is??? List the context clue(s)that led you to your judgement.

2.In the story there is a Cabala (obviously) What kind of Cabala is it? Explain.

Hey uh rachel that question has been asked like 5 times already

Rachel Moore said...

Connor, I think Mendel used an event from the bible as an excise for being in love on page 87because he doesn't want the author to think that he was crazy and that it was okay to be in love.

(that last comment of mine was to jenna)

Rachel Moore said...

Why do you think that Nebdek and the author's talk separated them rather than bringing them closer?

Tyler said...

Jenna, the story went from dull and gloomy to a good, "happy" ending.

Sylvia said...

Why is the Cabala only for strong minds? what about it would drive weak minds insane?

Tyler said...

Sarah, Mendel always makes up stories because he is jealous of the narrator and his father.

Sylvia said...

Why did Mendel decide to keep his coin when Isaac unselfishly gave his coin to "charity".

Tyler said...

Do you think the boys had told their stories before to other boys, or do you think they were making it up as they went? They seemed pretty confident of the answers.

Tyler said...

Why do you think the narrator gave the copper piece to the poor man? Do you think he did it to gain respect? Or to be a good person? Or to make himself feel better?

Sylvia said...

Joseph, Isaac is probably worried about the future because he is uncertain of his life. Mendel is so confident about his wife and his "job" already that Isaac feels like he is behind in life. Isaac's life is not written before his eyes as Mendel's is.

Sylvia said...

Sarah, Isaac wants to learn the Cabala because it would make his life more certain. He would know what life his was going to live and who he is going to marry. I don't think that it has to do much with his lie. It has more to do with when Mendel says,"I am in love!" The story even says that icy fingers touched Isaac's ribs. This makes Isaac want to learn the Cabala so he can find out who his will marry.

David B. said...

Why were both of the boys so afraid of the cabala?

David B. said...

Why did the boys stop linking arms after they both told their stories?

David B. said...

Is there a specific reasson the boys tell their stories or is it just to express their feelings?

David B. said...

Connor, Mendel uses an event from the bible because that is what he is familiar with. Most of what he knows has to do with the Jewish religion so if Jacob had kissed someone, then Mendel had every right to do so aswell.

David B. said...

Jake, 'Mysteries of the Cabala is a fine name for the book because it is based on the mysteries of the cabala.

Cainon said...

Why would Isaac make up these storiesabout himself to his friend?

Do you think Isaac is jealous of his "friend?" Why or why not?

Cainon said...

Jenna the stories mood changed because a part of Isaac's heart was finnaly full filled after so long. So Isaac wasn't this boy that never had true love from his dad.

Jenna B. said...

David, the boys make up stories because it is kind of like a hobby that they have, or one of there main interests.

Jenna B. said...

Sylvia, I think that the Cabala would drive weak minds insane because it would be way too much knowledge. Just liike if you grab a genuises math book, you would pretty much go crazy from too much knowledge.

Jenny♣ said...

If you were Isaac, would you worry about growing up and knowing who you'll get married to?

If you were Mendel, would you have been wooried about Issac messing around with the Cabala? Do you think you would've believed him? Explain

HOw do you think his mother being bling in one eye affects her daily life?

Michaela said...

1. are the events inthe beginning of the story sicnificant to the story?

2. is the fact that Mendel is a "girl chasher" an important part of the story?

Michaela said...

cainon,
issac makes up stories as a form of entertianment.

ABC123 said...

What message do you think the narrator's father was trying to get through to him when he kissed his forehead?

ABC123 said...

What caused the narrator to suddenly want to learn about the Cabala and start caring about girls?

croberts said...

1.Why did Isaac's father kiss his forehead?

2.Why did Isaac want to know the Cabala for real?

ABC123 said...

If you were the narrator, would you have joked around with something as important as the Cabala? Why or why not?

ABC123 said...

Why do you think the narrator gave his six-groschen to the poor old man?

ABC123 said...

Would you have given your six-groschen to the poor old man? If you were in the narrators possition, what would this action have showed, or proved?

croberts said...

Jojo,
I think that Isaac became so interested in the Cabala and girls because he wanted to impress his friends and know a little bit more about his religion.

ABC123 said...

Do you think that is good to take your religion as seriously as the characters in the story, or do you think that is better to enjoy your faith and not be fearful?

ABC123 said...

Jenny-
I would not be so worried about who I would marry. There is no way we can tell the future, so even if we worry ourselves to insanity about it, it won't make any difference!

croberts said...

Michaela,
I think that the fact that Mendel is a girl chaser is kind of important because thats part of what makes them mad at eachother and not because who really cares?

ABC123 said...

Connor-
Mendel uses an event from the bible to back up his argument. This made it stronger.

Jenny♣ said...

Joseph, I think that Isaac is so worried about the future because after he had fooled aroung with Mendel, he felt more concerned.

Sarah, Mendel always never told the truth maybe because the two are just telling stories, and sometimes they can be made up for the fun, but I think that Mendel mostly told imaginary stories for fun with Isaac

Anonymous said...

jo jo,
i think it isn't really healthy for the characters to take their religion THAT seriously. I would just kind TRY to enjoy it.

Anonymous said...

jo jo,
I don't think i would mess around with anything as important as the Cabala because it might come back to haughnt me someday and it would just be wrong.

peyton,
the author lied about knowing the cabala because he was jelouse amd wanted mendel to think highly,in an important way. also, the fact that mendel's dad hid in the woods was a part of mendel's story. it really has very little sicnificance to the main idea of the Mysteries of the Cabala.

connorb12 said...

Peyton, Mendal's father hides in the forest because he is a robber.

connorb12 said...

Jake, I think that Isaac was touched by his father's kiss because his dad had never done that before.

Cameron said...

Jillian, Mendel told the narrator that his dad was a theif because he felt the need to be better than him.

Peyton, the author lied about knowing the Cabala because Mendel lied about his father so he felt like he needed to outdo Mendel's story.

ABC123 said...

Jenna-
It was Isaac who wanted to go home. He wanted to go home because he knew that he should not have made a joke about the Cabala. He was worried and wanted to talk to his father.
